Music Analysis #1 – Meant to Be

Meant to Be, Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line, released Aug, 2017, country pop

I love that Bebe Rexha writes such relatable songs. “Meant to Be” is a simple calming song. They sing, “So, won’t you ride with me, ride with me? See where this things goes. If it’s meant to be, it’ll be…” meaning there’s no rush, let’s take this journey and if it’s meant to be, it’ll be which is so true. Just take one day at a time. I also love that Bebe Rexha is changing music genes and bringing them together so nicely. Bebe rexha herself is more of a pop singer and in this song she’s singing with Florida Georgia Line, a country duo.

The beat, tempo and the beautiful harmony is what really catches my attention. The beat and tempo so steady and just makes you want to nod your head to it, or tap your foot. Along with the piano driven melody and the fluctuation between the pitches makes this song like no other and catches my attention every time.

Florida Georgia Line is a country duo including vocalists Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard. Brian is from Florida and Tyler is from Georgia, giving them their name. They have 3 albums; Anything Like Me(2010), It’s Just What We Do and Here’s to the Good Times (2012) and Anything Goes(2014) and they are now working on their 4th album Dig Your Roots. They have associated with many acts to name a few; Luke Bryan, Nelly, Backstreet Boys, Tim McGraw, Ziggly Marley and now Bebe Rexha.

Bleta Rexha who gave herself the stage name of Bebe Rexha is a pop, R&B, dance and electopop singer and songwriter. Bebe has released many singles and has been associated with many such as; G-Easy, Nicki Minaj, David Guetta and Florida Georgia Line.

  1. First off, I love this song and was just listening to it the other day! I agree with you that the contrast between her pop vibe and his country twang makes for a nice song. It’s simple making the beat pretty catchy as well. I don’t know too much about Florida Georgia Line, although I hear them on the radio quite often, I would have been interested to learn more about them.
    Good job 🙂

  2. I too, like how this song is put together. I agree that the melody and the pitches makes this song like no other. This is the first time I heard this song and it got my attention right away. Good job on identifying the elements.

  3. I have never heard this song before and I liked it right off the bat! How it starts off with the piano and as soon as he starts singing you can feel the beat right away, I think that is what caught my attention pretty fast. So yes I agree that the song makes you want to nod your head because before I even read your blog I was nodding my head along with the beat of the song. I have always liked when songs switch from a guys voice to a girls for different verses. This one meshed well together for that part, both their voices are beautiful! Thank you for sharing!

  4. Thanks for sharing this song. This is what I am starting to enjoy about this class, the different variations of songs that people like and introduction to songs that I would never have heard without our classmates sharing. I too really liked the beat, tempo, and harmony. I love the different levels of contrast of different singers’ pitches and tones. Just as I added to another blog comment (which I wish I had done), the only change I would have liked to have seen, are the lyrics of the song added to your blog. Great job (mine was pretty plain and boring)!
